Holighaus Pickups

As a guitarist, I was looking for “the sound” for many years.

Many will know it. Various amps and speakers, guitars of various designs made from various types of wood. Screwed neck, glued neck.

Everything influences a guitarist's sound. The pickups of a guitar also have a huge influence on its sound. A good pickup makes a not-so-good guitar sound better. A bad pickup makes a good guitar sound worse.

However, you can't simply say that pickup Y is best for guitar Everyone experiences the sound differently. Every component in the signal chain can influence the sound.

Of course it starts with the guitarist's playing style, then it continues with the plectrum, the strings, saddle material, bridge, wood, and construction of the guitar. The next point is the pickup position. Every component of the pickup influences the sound. The pickup cap, the material of each component, the processing method, even the insulation material of the copper wire influences the sound. An important factor here is the guidance of the winding wire. Machine wrapped or individually hand wrapped. Another important point that influences the sound in a pickup is the magnet material, which I would like to go into in more detail on the Alnico Magnet Types page. Then comes the length of the pickup connection cable. Then the wiring and circuitry in the guitar, and the jack socket. Now the signal leaves the guitar and goes through the guitar cable, which of course also influences the sound. Then there may be effects devices and finally the amp. There are a lot of sound influences there too. Control options, and no single tube is exactly the same as another. The speakers shape the sound in the end to a significant extent.

I've been looking for "the right" pickup for a long time. I've tried a lot too. After a short time, some nuance was no longer what one had imagined.

That gave me the impetus to make my own pickups according to my own ideas. I was already familiar with the functionality and the basic design from my pickup odyssey and so I started modifying my pickups and eventually created the first pickups of my own, equipped with the best components from scratch. Here it was practice, practice, practice. The pickups got better and better and were really audible.

Through continuous further development and investment in my tools and through constant intensive research and research into materials and technology, the “Holighaus Pickups” are created today.

Holighaus pickups are created “one at a time” and the winding wire is guided by hand on each pickup. So every pickup is unique.

I would like to give everyone the opportunity to put together their own individual pickup to find “their sound”. This is exactly what is possible under Custom Shop. I have defined a few specifications for the different models, which roughly move the pickup in a certain “direction”. All other possible options can be selected there. If someone can't find what they are looking for, they are of course welcome to contact me to find "their" pickup.
